Not Canadian. Not a citizen, so can’t vote [yet]. Come from 2 party system. Love politics and find multi-party Canadian politics interesting.

Scenario 1: Vote NDP. A chump is a chump, regardless of party. I assume the NDP candidate is not wildly out of line with my beliefs, however. I would be loathe to encourage a chump to run again by giving my vote.

Scenario 2: Vote Liberal is candidate is of quality. Vote NDP if not.

Vote your self-interest, not party politics. This will encourage party to put up good candidates and modify positions to attract votes. It will also protect multi-party system.

If you vote lesser of two evils, what incentive exists for party policy change?

when the first-past-the-post electoral system is an antique from a 19th-century two-party era where the winner gets more than 50% of the vote by definition, and the 21st century is an era of 4 national parties and one regional federal party, strategic voting is a reasonable thing to do.

if we had a proportional representation system, voter turnout would go up and people who be highly motivated to vote for the party/candidate they wanted most of the time.
