Considering what other, more serious things cops get away with, it will be the victim's problem, at least until someone sues the gov't over compensation..then the law, if it is ever enacted, would be removed form the books..

My concern is with the charge that is dismissed after the courts find that the cop has made an error of some kind. Will the costs incurred by the now-found innocent driver be reimbursed? Believe it or, cops do make mistakes and their equipment does fail on occasion.

Doing forty klicks over the speed limit is just a bit excessive, to start with..a bit dangerous with kids in the car?
Although I am empathetic with the frustration that the police must feel, this goes way beyond their mandate..I can see the civil liberty lawyers rubbing their hands, even now...

Fabulous, succinct commentary. Stephen Harper terrifies me; does he have an ethical bone in his body?

Is it appropriate for Harpo to starve out the CBC? Is it appropriate for him to even be seen to be involved in this -hell no!
Is it appropriate for Gordon Campbell to lie and cheat his way through the HST fracas? Or sell our Province to the highest bidder?
And yet they both keep getting elected..which tells me more than I ever wanted to know about these twin creeps... and the Canadian electorate. As I read recently on Huffpost, when people vote, the progressive parties get in..when election numbers are down (and they are always down, it seems) then the result is..rightwing whackjobs...who are going to gleefully dismantle everything positive about this country if we keep sitting back and letting them...*yawn* pass the remote, wouldja?

Good point, LeftCoast.

Imagine a Lower Mainlander (with two kids in the car) caught 'speeding' near Dawson Creek. She somehow has to get everybody home to Coquitlam and then a week later go back for the car. If later found innocent in a real court of law, her expenses would be many thousands of dollars.
Who pays that? Maybe the Superintendent...or the cop?

Not a chance!

So I guess our hapless driver could get a lawyer and sue, once she figures out just who to sue. Good luck with that.

Very true, however I do not see the Queensborough, Arthur Lang, Oak or Knight Street or Alex Fraser as reasonable alternatives to the Portmann or Pattullo. Maybe the Alex Fraser Bridge but not the others so much. But you are correct, the bridges you mentioned are not tolled.
