Rafe Mair calls out the group “BC Citizens for Green Energy”

January 28, 2010 by theleftcoast.ca · 3 Comments

It appears that Rafe Mair, spokesman for the Save Our Rivers Society is in a very public pissing match with another group who call themselves “BC Citizens for Green Energy.” This group is alleging that Rafe is “launching a nuclear attack on BC.” Read between the headlines and you might surmise that they are claiming Rafe Mair is advocating for nuclear power in BC. Rafe denies he has ever said this and says he “doesn’t plan on dealing with it any further.”

Rafe says that the “BC Citizens for Green Energy” are “shills for the private power industry and…their unfamiliarity with the truth makes them very good partners for the Campbell government.”

Rafe claims that the group attacking him have never refuted what he has said. Instead they simply resort to ad hominem attacks on him and attacks on how, and by who Rafe is funded. On those issues Rafe openly admits that he was paid to be the spokesperson for the Save Our Rivers Society. That deal went from May 1st 2008 until June 1st (doesn’t say what year). And further Rafe states that the funding that the SORS receives is from strictly non-institutional sources.

As for the accusation that Rafe is aligned with Andy Ross of COPE 378, Rafe readily admits that he has shared a platform with Ross. He says he also shared a platform with Gwen Barlee and Joe Foy of the Wilderness Committee. He claims that was a cost savings measure that would have been foolish not to have done.

In light of these admissions Rafe Mair asks the BC Citizens for Green Energy one question; where does their financial backing come from? He asks if they are funded by the private power industry; companies like General Electric, Ledcor and the Dupont family?

You have to wonder if this public calling out will be answered by the BC Citizens for Green Energy.
