Port Coquitlam Mayor and Council Vote Themselves Hefty Pay Increase

July 27, 2010 by theleftcoast.ca · 2 Comments

Pretty sweet deal when you can tell your boss that the fact that you have not given yourself a pay increase recently is reason enough to vote yourself a 27% increase in pay.

At a meeting Monday night, Port Coquitlam council voted in favour of a 27 per cent increase for the mayor, which would raise his pay to $85,418 a year from $67,277.

City councillors will get a 42 per cent raise, bringing their pay to $31,654, up from $22,257.

It might be informative to give comparably-sized Metro Vancouver numbers for comparison; as it stands, these don’t sound outrageous, especially the councilors rates…

The mayor is now the 8th highest paid in the Metro Vancouver area. He was the 9th highest before the raise.
